Clinical Services


   

Following the National Reproductive Health Policy supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH), RHAC delivers a comprehensive package of health services at it 16 clinic sites (9 clinics and 7 health posts). Among the 9 clinics, there are 3 in Phnom Penh; one in each  provinces / municipality, including Sihanoukville, Battambang, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Speu, Sim Reap. And among the 7 health posts, 4 are located in Phnom Penh, 2 are in Kampong Cham, and one is in Sim Reap.
 
All clinics and health posts provide services contributing to improve mother health and family planning, and reduce transmission of HIV.

                                

Maternal and reproductive health (RH) services offered at clinics and health posts are: 

 

  • Family planning services, including pill, condom, injectable, IUD, Norplant, and voluntary surgical contraceptive(VSC) 
  • Antenatal Care and Postnatal Care (ANC and PNC) 
  • Emergency Contraception (EC) 
  • Rape victim support including diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and referral 
  • Early diagnosis and treatment of cervical carcinoma
  • Post abortion care (PAC) and manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) 
  • Counseling on menopause 
  • Counseling and screening for infertility  

And, HIV/AIDS related services include:

 

  • Voluntary and confidential counseling and testing (VCCT)
  • Diagnosis and treatment of sexual transmitted diseases (STDs)/reproductive track infections (RTIs)
  • Prevention from mother to child transmission (PMCTC) during ANC and PNC, for example, referring pregnant women for Nevirapin in preparation for delivery
  • Premarital screening, counseling, and testing 

All clinics provide basic laboratory services, such as analyzing cervical and vaginal smears, PAP smear, blood group identification, white blood cell differential count, hemoglobin, syphilis testing, pregnancy testing, and urine analysis. In addition, in 6 clinics provide ultrasound services to support diagnosis in the treatment services. 


                                 


Provision of accurate and up-to-date information on Sexual, Reproductive Health, and Rights (SRH)

RHAC clinics make use of the opportunity of the presence of clients in the waiting rooms, to educate them about sexual and reproductive health issues, and rights. Every morning, one staff member at each clinic conducts a group education session on birth spacing, ANC, and self breast exam for the clients waiting for services. And, each clinic has schedule of mother class exercise, postnatal exercise, and bathing baby to interested clients.
Furthermore, in year 2007, RHAC ‘s senior staff were invited to provide the talk for municipal radio program, which covered information on sexual reproductive health (SRH) for youth, named “Hip Hop Girl”; to attend the call-in show program “Especially you, young people”, which organized by Cambodia Health Education Media Services (CHEMS). Also, to provides information via national radio program.Notify that, all mentioned radio program were broadcasted to address the questions related to SRH for public including, young people, male and female audiences. 


Increasing male commitment to SRH

 

 In RHAC clinics, male involvement in SRH is promoted through the education sessions for clients and the counseling services. All female clients are encouraged to bring their partners when they come for counseling on birth spacing methods.At all RHAC clinics, the waiting area and examination rooms for female clients are separate from those for male clients; medical staff, both female and male, are always available for consultation. As a result, in year 2006, there were 38,408 male clients; and year 2007, 39,808 received SRH services in RHAC clinics and health posts.

 

Quality of Care (QOC)in RHAC clinics and health posts

RHAC’s internal evaluators-clinic team led by the local clinic mangers maintain and improve the quality of its clinical services by conducting Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) every six moths, and external evaluators, the clinic evaluation team from  RHAC’s headquarter conduct Quality of Care(QOC) one time each year for each clinic/health post.On February year 2006, the regional office of IPPF external assessment team from Kualar Lumpur has provide the highest assessment score to RHAC among the region and awarded RHAC with Quality of Care Certification to prove RHAC’s commitment to quality services.


                              


 
Clinical training

RHAC clinical training made a good reputation on youth friendly services training and sexual reproductive health, family planning, reproductive track infection, HIV/AIDS and other health related topic. As evidence, in year 2007, the training team was requested by the government and NGO partners such as, UNFPA, Partner for Development (PFD), Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), Reproductive and Child Health Alliance (RACHA), and Population Services International (PSI) to provide training to their staff and partners.
